Surface Mounted, Recessed and
Semi-Recessed – page name: Mounting Types
The first factor to consider when choosing which paper towel
dispenser to buy is how it will be mounted to your wall. When it
comes to placing a paper towel or tissue dispenser on your wall
there are basically three options:
• Surface Mounted
• Recessed Mounted
• Semi-Recessed Mounted
No matter what type of
make or model paper towel or tissue dispenser that you choose,
they all fall under the category of recessed, semi-recessed or
surface mounted. There are some advantages and disadvantages to
all mounting types, let's take a look.
Surface paper towel
dispensers are essentially what the name implies, they are
mounted on to a surface. These types of paper towel dispensers
are ideal in situations where the walls of the building are not
deep enough or they are not made of the right materials to house
the unit. The disadvantage of this type is that they protrude
out further from the wall than other types of dispensers taking
up more space in your washroom or restroom. Depending on the
size, surface mounted units often cannot qualify to meet ADA
requirements.
Often times if you are
installing your dispenser that newly constructed building, you
have the luxury of designing a room that accommodates depth of
the walls. But if you are installing paper towel dispensers in
existing building on your remodeling your only option may
sometimes be a surface mount your paper towel dispenser.
Semi-recessed paper
towel dispensers are units that partially protrude from the
wall. These types of units are ideal for situations where you
have a wall that has some depth, but not enough to house the
complete hand paper towel dispensing unit. In many situations
this can be an ideal solution. Depending on your areas
guidelines, these types of paper towel dispensers can sometimes
meet ADA requirements.
Recessed paper towel
dispensers are dispensers that are designed to fit almost
completely into the depth of a wall. In an ideal world all hand
dryers would be completely recessed, they're considered the
preferred choice when available with the option is available.
The only part of this type
of paper towel or tissue dispenser that protrude from the wall
is the face of the unit . This is more aesthetically appealing
and considered much easier to access and maneuver. Also, fully
recessed paper towel dispensers are much better at deterring
vandalism. Most, if not all, fully recessed hand dryers meet ADA
requirements and are ideal for newly constructed buildings and
restaurants when you have the option.
